Our Bears
Why are your teddy bears called Heirloom Teddy Bears?
Our teddy bears are made using traditional techniques and materials in the same way as the very first Teddy's Bears' that were made at the turn of the 20th century. Many of the original teddy bears from this period are still intact and circulating amongst teddy bear collectors. It is the craftsmanship and use of luxurious but hard-wearing mohair fabric that allows these type of teddy bears to be passed down over multiple generations that can span one hundred or more years. Since our teddy bears are made in this fashion, they truly are really beautiful one of a kind heirloom items that we hope will be in your family for many generations to come!
What are your teddy bears made with?
Our teddy bears are made with mohair fabric as an outer material. The teddy bears paw pads are made of 100% wool felt. We use glass eyes and hand embroider our bears' noses and mouths. Our Bears are stuffed with a combination of wood wool (excelsior) and heavy polyester stuffing to ensure that you get the most lovable hug from your teddy!
How many hours does it take to create a teddy bear?
It will usually take between 8 and 10 hours to complete a teddy bear. This time allows us to really focus on the finer details that make each teddy bear special.
Are your teddy bears handmade?
Yes, our teddy bears are loving hand made at every stage.
Where are your teddy bears made?
Our teddy bears are made on a very small scale in England, UK.
How do you price your teddy bears?
Our Heirloom Teddy Bears are made using traditional techniques and materials. Mohair fabric is such a luxurious material that that alone can carry a price tag of over £100 per metre. As mentioned above, each bear is lovingly handmade and can take up to 10 hours or more to make. With the larger teddy bears, which are weighted for a nice heavy feel in the hand, shipping costs are high not only because of the weight but the cost to insure your bear during delivery! All of these factors are taken into account when pricing our teddies.
Can I use your Heirloom Bears as a toy for my child?
No. Our Heirloom Teddy Bear range are NOT toys. They have not been CE or UKCA tested as they are intended for display purposes only. They cannot be given to any persons under the age of 14 years.
Do you take custom and personalised orders?
Yes! I love working with my customers to make special orders of which I have done a few. Please contact me and I will be happy to discuss this with you.
What are the care instructions for mohair bears?
Mohair Teddy Bears are made using real mohair that is wefted into a strong cotton backing. Mohair Bears need a regular brush and inspection for moths (Moths love to make holes on the mohair and wool felt paw pads). If your Mohair Bear gets soiled in any way, you should only surface clean your Teddy gently using a gentle carpet cleaner paying attention to not allow the backing to get wet.
